Kasalu Emerges as Early Favourite in Online 2027 Kitui Governor Poll
With the 2027 Kitui gubernatorial race slowly gathering momentum, an online opinion poll has sparked discussion after placing Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu ahead of a field of prominent contenders.
The poll, titled “Who would you vote for as Kitui Governor in 2027?”, shows Kasalu leading the race, followed closely by Kiio and former Governor Charity Ngilu. Mulila and Governor Julius Malombe’s predecessor? (Makali) trail behind, while the “Any Other” option has attracted little interest.
Although such online polls are not scientific and cannot be considered a definitive measure of public opinion, they often provide an early indication of the conversations taking place among politically engaged residents.
Kasalu’s strong showing reflects her growing visibility across the county. Over the past few years, she has built a reputation around youth empowerment, women’s economic empowerment, education support through scholarships, and practical income-generating initiatives. Her campaign message of generational leadership and fresh ideas appears to be resonating with many voters, particularly young people.
The early poll also mirrors a broader debate emerging in Kitui politics: whether the county should continue with familiar political figures or embrace a new generation of leadership. With many young voters expected to play a decisive role in the 2027 election, the contest is increasingly being framed as a choice between experience and a fresh vision.
Political observers, however, caution against reading too much into online surveys. Internet-based polls typically capture only a section of the electorate and can be influenced by who shares the poll and who chooses to participate. The actual outcome will ultimately depend on campaigns on the ground, party nominations, voter turnout, and the issues that matter most to Kitui residents.
What is becoming increasingly clear is that the race for the Kitui governorship is taking shape earlier than expected. If the enthusiasm reflected in this poll is sustained, the county could be headed for one of its most competitive gubernatorial elections since the advent of devolution.
