Is Team Makali Already Preparing Excuses for a Primary Defeat?

The latest WhatsApp propaganda from Team Makali says more about their fears than their strategies.

Unable to stop Dr. Irene Kasalu’s growing grassroots momentum, some of Makali’s online defenders are now pushing claims of a Ngilu–Kasalu scheme. Instead of selling their candidate, they seem busy preparing explanations for why he might lose.

What makes the claims even more curious is that since declaring his gubernatorial bid, Makali has hardly held any major political rallies of his own. Critics argue that his public appearances have largely been limited to gate-crashing burials, birthday celebrations and Ngone-Mwaitu events rather than sustained, structured mobilization across the county.

On the other hand, Kasalu has been visibly active on the ground, reportedly touring Kitui East, Kitui South, Mwingi North, Mwingi Central, and Mwingi West, reaching well over 16 wards through community visits and engagements.

Politics is won on the ground, not in WhatsApp groups. If Kasalu continues gaining support, it will be because voters are responding to her message and grassroots engagement not because of imaginary plots.

When a campaign spends more time talking about conspiracies than mobilizing supporters, it may be a sign that confidence is running low.

The question Kitui voters should ask is simple: Is Team Makali exposing a plot, or are they already rehearsing excuses for a defeat in the primaries.
