Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu has intensified her Boda Boda SACCO empowerment programme, with plans to distribute hundreds of motorbikes to riders across Kitui County.
The initiative, which has already covered more than 20 wards, is now at its halfway mark, with the next phase targeting even wider reach at the grassroots. The motorbikes are being delivered directly to riders in wards and villages, a move aimed at ensuring the benefits are felt at the community level.

According to Dr. Kasalu, the programme seeks to ensure that by July 2027, all 40 wards in the county will have at least one SACCO supported with motorbikes. The approach is designed to strengthen cooperative structures among Boda Boda operators while boosting their economic capacity.
Beyond the distribution of motorbikes, the programme is also focused on integrating riders into formal financial systems. Through the SACCOs, beneficiaries are expected to access loans and government-backed financial support, improving their ability to grow and sustain their businesses.

Dr. Kasalu has also indicated that her long-term plan includes giving Boda Boda operators a greater voice in county economic planning, recognizing their role in transporting people and goods across the region.
The empowerment drive is part of a broader effort to support youth livelihoods and expand economic opportunities at the ward level, with hundreds of riders set to benefit as the rollout continues.
