n emerging trend is becoming evident in the kitui political circles. Supporters of Charity Ngilu appear to have eased their attacks on Makali Mulu and shifted their fire toward Dr. Irene Kasalu often stepping in wherever Makali and Kasalu’s online supporters are clashing.
Political observers see this as a calculated move. Some pundits argue Ngilu’s camp would rather face Makali at the ballot, viewing him as the weaker opponent and therefore easier to beat.
Kasalu, on the other hand, represents uncharted territory for Ngilu’s political career. She has never squared off against a younger female challenger, making such a race far less predictable.
The age gap also complicates the equation. Kasalu’s team would likely exploit the generational contrast an angle that would be far less potent against Makali, who is only about five years younger than Ngilu.
Analysts also point out that Ngilu historically had the upper hand over Makali in Kitui Central politics before 2013, reinforcing the belief within her camp that he poses a less formidable challenge.
Put simply, a direct face-off between Ngilu and Kasalu would create a stark contrast almost night and day. And that is a duel Ngilu’s camp may not be too eager to invite
