A political storm is brewing in Mwingi West after a parliamentary aspirant was arraigned in court over a past fraud case.
Ngenga, who is currently vying for the Mwingi West parliamentary seat, appeared before the Milimani Law Courts on February 20 in connection with a fraud matter dating back to 2020.
According to a charge sheet filed by the National Police Service under Police Case No. 121/189/2020, Ngenga identified as Jonathan Ngenga Ndisya was charged with conspiracy to defraud contrary to Section 317 of the Penal Code. The case was initially presented in court on September 18, 2020.
Court documents indicate that between July 1, 2018 and March 31, 2020, Ngenga and a co-accused allegedly conspired to defraud Agro Irrigation & Pump Services Limited of KSh 106,822,690. The prosecution alleges that the accused falsely claimed that Joncil Enterprises had deposited the said amount into the company’s bank account for goods supplied.
The complainant in the matter is listed as a representative of Agro Irrigation & Pump Services Ltd, based in Nairobi.
Ngenga’s court appearance comes at a politically sensitive time, as campaigns in Mwingi West gather momentum. His arraignment has sparked debate among constituents, with rivals questioning his suitability for office while supporters maintain that the matter is still before the courts and that he remains innocent until proven guilty.
The case is expected to proceed through the judicial process, with further directions anticipated from the court.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the development is likely to shape the political landscape in Mwingi West, where integrity and accountability are expected to feature prominently in campaign discussions.
