Restoring Dignity, One Home at a Time: The Water Transformation in Kitui

For far too long, the women and girls of Kitui have carried an unfair burden. Day after day, our mothers and daughters have walked long distances, heavy containers of water strapped to their backs time and strength that should have been invested in education, enterprise, family, and rest. That long journey of struggle is coming to an end.Hon. Irene Kasalu’s commitment to the people of Kitui remains firm and unshakable: KILA MUSYI ITANGI water in every homestead.Today, this promise is no longer just rhetoric. It is taking visible, practical shape across the county. Already, more than 1,500 water tanks have been distributed to households in different parts of Kitui, bringing water closer to families that have endured decades of scarcity. But this initiative is about far more than plastic tanks and taps. It is about transforming lives. It is about dignity ensuring that access to water, a basic human right, is no longer a daily struggle but a service delivered right to the doorstep. It is about health guaranteeing safe, clean water storage for families, reducing waterborne diseases, and improving overall well-being.And it is about empowerment giving women back the hours once lost to water journeys, allowing them to build businesses, pursue education, and live lives of purpose.Looking ahead, Hon. Irene Kasalu has pledged that if elected governor, every household will have access to clean and reliable water, alongside the construction of water pans for livestock and irrigation systems to support farming, food security, and economic growth across the county.“Having been born in an area where we used to travel miles and miles in search of water, I fully understand how important access to water is,” Hon. Kasalu said. This is not a promise of change tomorrow it is action today. They are not merely talking about transformation; they are installing it, one home at a time.Because when Kitui has water, Kitui thrives.
