Makali Ngilu feud over kitui central votes
If we truly care about Kitui County, former governor Charity Ngilu should not be a gubernatorial candidate. This is the firm position taken by Makali, who says the county’s future demands leadership grounded in tangible development rather than political handouts.
Responding to questions during an interview by (beyond facts)on whether his candidature could split votes in Kitui Central, Makali expressed unwavering confidence in his ability to defeat Ngilu should he secure the ticket. He dismissed fears of vote splitting, arguing that his political experience and understanding of Ngilu’s strategies put him at a clear advantage.
Makali noted that as far back as 2007, when he was still a political greenhorn, he gave Ngilu a serious challenge at the ballot. Fifteen years later, he says, he is far more experienced and better prepared for the contest.
“I was a political greenhorn in 2007 and still gave her a serious challenge. Today, I am very confident I will beat her,” he said.
He further revealed that he once served as Ngilu’s strategist, a role that, according to him, allowed him to fully understand her political tactics and style of mobilization.
“For the record, I was once her strategist, so I understand all her tactics,” Makali added.
In a scathing assessment of Ngilu’s leadership record, Makali accused her of failing during her tenure both as the Member of Parliament for Kitui Central and later as governor of Kitui County. He argued that her leadership placed more emphasis on handouts than on meaningful, long-term development projects.
According to Makali, Kitui County needs leaders who prioritize sustainable development, service delivery, and economic empowerment of residents, rather than short-term political appeasement.
His remarks are expected to heighten political temperatures in Kitui as campaigns take shape, with the debate increasingly focusing on past performance, leadership style, and the future direction of the county.
