It has now emerged that former Kitui Senator David Musila played a pivotal behind-the-scenes role in recent political realignments within the county.
Reliable sources reveal that Musila was approached by elders from the Mwingi region and respectfully requested to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions in favour of Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu.
The elders drawn from Mwingi North, Mwingi West, and Mwingi Central are said to have held a joint meeting with both Kasalu and Musila at the Radisson Blu Hotel on November 29.
The initiative was reportedly brokered by influential Mwingi business leaders who view the 2027 General Election as the most opportune moment for the region to produce its first governor.
Sources indicate that Musila agreed to step aside and fully endorsed Kasalu’s bid, pledging to support her candidature in every way possible.
“I am the person who introduced Irene to Kitui politics in 2016. It would have been very selfish of me to compete with someone I regard as my daughter,” Musila reportedly said.
Kasalu, on her part, expressed her gratitude to Musila, describing him as her political father and thanking him for sacrificing his ambitions in favour of her candidacy.
Also in attendance was Musila’s longtime friend and former Kitui Woman Representative, Nyiva Mwendwa.
