Natembeya impeachment looming

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Trans Nzoia to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor George Natembeya, arguing that such a move would safeguard devolution and serve the interests of county residents.

Cherargei accused the governor of poor performance, claiming Natembeya has failed to deliver tangible development despite receiving devolved funds from the national government.

“He has nothing to show the people of Trans Nzoia. That is why he is resorting to lame excuses, yet he is allocated money under devolution,” the senator said.

Cherargei, a vocal ally of President William Ruto, has increasingly taken a hardline stance against the Trans Nzoia governor. Political observers view his remarks as part of a broader strategy by leaders aligned with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The push against Natembeya is also being interpreted as an effort by senior Western Kenya leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, to limit the governor’s growing political influence in the region.

Governor Natembeya has in recent months emerged as a vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza government, a position that has reportedly put him at odds with key figures within the ruling coalition.
