Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua is increasingly finding himself on the receiving end of public hostility, with the latest incident unfolding in Kabati, Kitui West. The senator was heckled and nearly chased away during the burial of Shabiki, a well-known businessman in the town. The reaction shocked many, given that Kabati is considered part of Wambua’s stronghold. His rural home in Kyandoni is only a short distance from the venue, making the hostility even more unexpected Trouble began when the senator appeared to shift blame for the region’s insecurity from the national government to the county government remarks that did not sit well with the restless crowd. Boos and jeers erupted, forcing him to cut short his speech. The Kiio political camp later accused Kitui West parliamentary aspirant Fredrick Kimanga of orchestrating the heckling to embarrass the senator. They claimed Kimanga was attempting to gain political mileage as he plans to challenge Wambua’s sister, the current Kitui West MP, in the 2027 elections.Kimanga dismissed the accusations, insisting he had nothing to do with the incident. He fired back, saying Kitui West residents were simply “tired of dynasties” and wanted a new political direction. This marks the second public humiliation for Senator Wambua and his allies within a fortnight. Just last week, his point man was reportedly nearly assaulted in Matinyani, signalling rising tensions and waning patience among locals.pollitical analysts say the repeated incidents could be a sign of shifting ground in Kitui county politics, especially as the 2027 campaigns quietly take shape.
